Iran’s breach of Suez Canal
Two Iranian warships, a frigate and a supply ship, have entered the Suez Canal en route to the Mediterranean Sea. Iranian officials say the ships are steaming for Syria, a close ally to Iran’s hard-line muslim leaders and arch-enemy of Israel, for a training mission. Iran has been prohibited from sending warships through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean for several decades. In fact, Iranian warships have not passed through the Suez Canal since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Israel has stated earlier that it would consider such an act by Iran as one of hostility and provocation and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he viewed the move “with gravity.” This could get nasty . . .
