The substance of Planned Parenthood’s mission statement, according to the federation’s website, reads as follows:
“Planned Parenthood believes in the fundamental right of each individual, throughout the world, to manage his or her fertility, regardless of the individual’s income, marital status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or residence. We believe that respect and value for diversity in all aspects of our organization are essential to our well-being. We believe that reproductive self-determination must be voluntary and preserve the individual’s right to privacy. We further believe that such self-determination will contribute to an enhancement of the quality of life and strong family relationships.”
The part of that mission statement that caught my eye was “respect and value for diversity . . . are essential to our well-being”. It was the closest thing I could find in there that advocates the value of human life.
According to a report in the 31DEC2010 Washington Examiner, Planned Parenthood is cutting all ties with the Planned Parenthood clinic in Corpus Christi, Texas because “it doesn’t perform enough abortions” as the federation is trying to “standardize its operations” by performing high numbers of abortions. Corpus Christi, on the other hand, is actually performing planned parenthood by focusing on the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. They also encourage men to share the responsibility of family planning – men represent about 20% of their clientele. In fact, the company’s CEO Amanda Stukenburg, told the local newspaper that, “We have never provided abortions.” The Corpus Christi facility will be changing its name to Family Planning of the Coastal Bend as of 01JAN2011 and will continue to provide its actual planned parenthood services to clients.
So wait a minute . . . let me get this straight . . . The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is firing its facility in Corpus Christi for doing Planned Parenthood. Yeah, right. The first paragraph of their 2009 report reads, “All year long, change was in the air. Throughout 2008 and into 2009 the winds of change blew in the land as America looked for new direction – in the White House, on Capitol Hill, in their communities and in their own lives.” And, in 2009, Planned Parenthood was recipient of $363.2m in government aid according to that same annual report.
Well now . . . isn’t that special. I seem to remember Obama-rama speaking on numerous occasions that federal funds would not be used to finance abortions. I found this particular one where he is addressing Obamacare, the Health Care Reform Act, and speaks directly to the issue. Pay close attention at about 0:34 or so of the following video:
Even though he is specifically addressing the Obamacare bill, this statement broadly means that the federal government will not fund abortions. Yet – the Planned Parenthood Federation of America was the recipient of close to half a billion dollars in federal aid in 2009? I’d call that government funding. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America wants to “standardize its operations” by performing as many abortions as possible? I’d call that nothing more than an abortion clinic. The only thing Planned Parenthood has that is different from the seedy back-alley abortion clinics of the bygone past is the fact that pregnant women walk right in the through front door in broad daylight with no fear of public reprisal. Well . . . that and the fact that the old abortion clinics weren’t government subsized as Planned Parenthood obviously is.
Obama promised transparency and he couldn’t be more transparent than he is on the issue of publically funded abortions. This alone proves how he speaks with a forked tongue, doing what he damn well pleases soon after playing to the polls by telling us what he thinks we want to hear. How does he really stand on abortions? Take a look at this:
Abortion. Federally funded as Obama promised his buddies at Planned Parenthood.
